Granny Tweed Neck Warmer and Scarf Crochet Patterns

I love combining different yarns in a project. I used Berroco Vintage in Guava for the main color and Berroco Millstone Tweed in Ash for the contrasting color. The smooth Vintage yarn granny square pattern combined with the unique texture of the tweed, creates a visually appealing and cozy piece.

Granny Square = 4 inches square, before CC edging

11 dc = 3.25 inches

Pattern Notes

Granny squares are made first. After seaming two squares together, stitches are picked up and half the scarf is worked. Then the two halves are joined.

The Contrasting Color yarn used in the sample is classified as a #5 bulky weight yarn. It was close enough to the #4 worsted weight yarn used as the Main Color to not require a change in hook size.

The sample used up the entire skein of MC. If you are not able to meet the stated gauge, you may want additional yardage.

Pattern

Granny Square

Make 4.

Rnd 1 (RS): With MC, starting with a magic ring, ch 5 (counts as dc and ch-2 here and throughout), [3 dc, ch 2] 3 times in ring, 2 dc in ring, join in 3^rd ch of beginning ch-5. (4 3-dc groups, 4 corner ch-2 sps)

Rnd 2: Sl st in first ch-2 sp, ch 5, 3 dc in same ch-2 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in each ch-2 sp around, 2 dc in first ch-2 sp, join in 3^rd ch of beginning ch-5. (8 3-dc groups, 4 corner ch-2 sps)

Rnd 3: Sl st in first ch-2 sp, ch 5, 3 dc in same ch-2 sp, [3 dc in gap between next 2 3-dc groups, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, 3 dc in gap between next 2 3-dc groups, 2 dc in first ch-2 sp, join in 3^rd ch of beginning ch-5. (12 3-dc groups, 4 corner ch-2 sps)

Rnd 4: Sl st in first ch-2 sp, ch 5, 3 dc in same ch-2 sp, [3 dc in each gap between 3-dc groups across to next corner ch-2 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch-2 sp] 3 times, 3 dc in each gap between 3-dc groups across to first corner, 2 dc in first ch-2 sp, join in 3^rd ch of beginning ch-5. Fasten off. (16 3-dc groups, 4 corner ch-2 sps)

Note: In Rnd 5, the center sc made in each corner ch-2 sp is the corner sc. It may be helpful to mark these with stitch markers.

Rnd 5: Pull up a loop of CC in any dc, ch 1, sc in same dc, [sc in each dc across to next corner ch-2 sp, 3 sc in corner ch-2 sp] 4 times, sc in each remaining dc, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off leaving a long tail. (60 sc)

Scarf Half

Make 2

Note: If desired, weigh the remaining MC yarn with a scale in grams so you will know when you have used exactly half of it. This is not required.

Hold 2 Granny Squares with RS together. Using one long tail, seam squares together along one side edge, through the back bumps of the 14 sts between corner sc. Do not seam corner sc together. Once they are seamed together, each long edge will have a corner sc on each outer point and 2 corner sc next to each other in the middle.

Pull up a loop of MC in back bump of an outer corner sc before a long edge.

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in back bump of each sc across to next corner sc of same Granny Square, dc2tog in back bumps of next 2 corner sc (1 on either side of seam), dc in back bump of each st across to next corner sc, dc in back bump of corner sc, turn. (31 sts)

On first Scarf Half only, place stitch marker in back bump of last sc worked into (for Edging).

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each st across, turn.

Rep row 2 until approximately half the MC yarn is used or piece is half of desired scarf length. Fasten off.

For first Scarf Half only, leave a tail approximately 4 times the width of the scarf, for seaming.

Use remaining 2 granny squares for 2nd Scarf Half. There is no need to place a stitch marker or leave a very long tail on 2nd Scarf Half.

Finishing

Use long tail from first half to sew both halves together.

Edging

Note: The center st in each 3-sc group made in the outer corners in the new corner sc.

Join CC with sl st in marked back bump of sc.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same back bump, *sc in back bump of each st across to next corner sc, 3 sc in back bump of corner sc, sc in back bump of each st across to next granny corner sc, sc2tog in back bump of next 2 corner sc (1 on either side of seam), sc in back bump of each st across to next corner sc, 3 sc in back bump of corner sc, sc in back bump of each sc across to next corner sc, sc in back bump of corner sc, working in row ends, [ch 1, sc] in each dc row across to center seam, ch 1, [sc, ch 1] in each dc row across to next Granny Square*, sc in back bump of corner sc of Granny Square, rep between * once, join with sl st in beginning sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in back bump of first st, sc in next st, *[sc in back bump of next st, sc in next st] across to corner sc, 3 sc in corner sc, sc in next st*, rep between * once, sc in back bump of next st, [sc in next st, sc in back bump of next st] across to next ch-1 sp, [sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in back bump of next sc] across to last ch-1 sp, sc in ch-1 sp, rep between * twice, sc in back bump of next st, [sc in next st, sc in back bump of next st] across to next ch-1 sp, [sc in ch-1 sp, sc in back bump of next sc] across to last ch-1 sp, sc in ch-1 sp, join with sl st in beginning sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, *[sc in back bump of next st, sc in next st] across to next corner, 3 sc in corner st, sc in next st, rep from * 3 more times, sc in back bump of next st, [sc in next st, sc in back bump of next st] around, join with sl st in beginning sc.

Fasten off. Weave in ends. Block if needed.
