This shrug adds the perfect finishing touch to any outfit. Rectangles work up quickly in worsted weight yarn, and the alternating stitch patterns show off your favorite variegated colorways.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Shrug measures about 16″ from back neck to lower edge x 41″ from cuff to cuff.

YARN

Encore Worsted Colorspun (200yds per 100g ball; 75% acrylic, 25% wool): 6 skeins of #7914 CONCORD SUNSET

NEEDLES
Size US 9 (5.5mm) or size to obtain gauge

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
Yarn needle



GAUGE
In pattern of 8 rows of Garter st (knit every row) alternated with 6 rows of Lace pattern, 12 sts = 4″ and 28 rows = 4.5″

PATTERN STITCHES
Lace Pattern (worked over odd number of sts)
Row 1: K1, *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat Row 1 for Lace pattern.

NOTE
Shrug can be made for larger sizes by sewing shorter sleeve seams. Try on Shrug before completing the sewing to determine needed seam length for desired fit.

DESIGNER’S TIP
If you don’t like the way the colors are pooling with a variegated yarn, alternate working with yarn from different skeins every two rows.


INSTRUCTIONS

Back
Cast on 49 sts.
Work in Garter st (knit every row) for 16 rows.
Work in Lace pattern for 6 rows.
Work in Garter st for 8 rows.
Work in Lace pattern for 6 rows.
Repeat last 14 rows 15 more times, until a total of 17 Lace pattern sections have been worked.
Work in Garter st for 16 rows.
Bind off.

Front (make 2)
Work same as Back until a total of 10 Lace pattern sections have been worked.
Work in Garter st for 16 rows.
Bind off.
FINISHING

With WS facing, place one Front on top of the Back with cast-on edges matching. Beginning at side edge, sew across the top of the pieces for 16″ for the top sleeve seam; leave remainder of edges unsewn for collar. Sew across the lower edge of the pieces for 16″ for the lower sleeve seam; leave remainder of edges unsewn for Front and Back lower edges. Sew other Front piece to opposite half of Back for 2nd sleeve.
Weave in ends. Block lightly, if desired.
