I’ve seen ads for Misfits Market for a while. They advertise “a subscription box of sometimes funny-looking, always delicious produce, designed to break the cycle of food waste”. When my friend Jessie, from the blog Jessie at Home, posted about her box of produce, I decided I’d give it a go.

I ordered a one-time box (instead of weekly or every 2 week delivery). The Mischief size seemed just right, and I requested Tuesday delivery.  When I ordered, I left the “allergies and food restrictions” section blank so I could see what sort of things they sent. They currently deliver to Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Delaware.  In this video, you can see me open the box. Watch the video, then scroll to the end of the post for my discount link for your own Misfits box.

What came in my produce box (spoiler warning)

….

….

….

1 bunch rainbow swiss chard

2 limes

black kale

2 clementines

2 lemons

2 golden beets

2 avocado

2 small heads brocolli

2 cucumber

2 zuchinni

2 yellow squash

2 green bell peppers

1 box of cherry tomatos

3 turnips

All of this cost me $21 and change.

Because of the difficulty of checking kale and broccoli for bugs according to kosher standards, I gave them to a non-Jewish friend. She actually had just received a Misfits Market produce box and had an eggplant she didn’t want. So, we swapped kale and broccoli for eggplant. I roasted the eggplant and pureed it with roasted garlic for a spread/dip that’s good on pita bread.
