It’s a tradition on Rosh Hashanah to dip apple slices in honey and wish everyone a sweet new year. With all the extra food to bring to the table for the festive holiday meals, I thought I’d make some felt apple shaped hotpads. These would also make great teachers’ gifts.

I made an apple template on the computer. You can download the pdf file to use for your own personal crafting. It has 3 pages: 1 page showing the full assembled apple, 1 page with the big outer apple outline, and 1 page with the inner apple outline, stem outline, and seeds outline. You can use these templates to make felt hotpads, paper apples with scrapbooking paper, fabric appliques, or whatever else you can dream up.

I used fusible web on the felt for inner apple, seeds, and stem in order to stick the pieces together. For the stem, I only had fusible web on the bottom since the stem sticks out the top. I bought a wool felt bundle in colorway “Apples” from PurlSoho (it was a special splurge). I wanted wool felt so that I wouldn’t have to worry about acrylic melting from heat.
