free afghan square flower crochet pattern

This small square is perfect for using up bits of yarn when making afghans and throw blankets. You can make each square with a different color flower but maintain a unified look by using the same yarn for the outer rounds.

Flower Afghan Square Pattern

Rnd 1: With A ch 5, [dc, ch 1] 5 times in 5th chain from the hook (4 skipped chs count as first dc and ch 1), join with sl st in 4th ch of beg ch. (6 dc, 6 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 2: 3 dc in first ch-1 sp, [sl st in next dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp] 5 times, join with sl st in first dc, fasten off. (6 3-dc groups, 6 sl st)

Rnd 3: Join B in back loop of any sl st, ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in same st, [ch 2, sk next dc, dc in back bar of next dc, sk next dc, ch 1, 2 dc in back loop of next sl st] 5 times, ch 2, sk next dc, dc in back bar of next dc, sk next dc, ch 1, join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. (6 2-dc groups, 6 dc, 6 ch-1 sps, 6 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 4: Sl st in next dc and next ch sp, ch 3, dc in same sp, ch 1, 2 dc in next ch sp, *ch 1, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch sp**, [ch 1, 2 dc in next ch sp] twice, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, ch 1, join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. (16 2-dc groups, 12 ch-1 sps, 4 ch-2 sp corners)



Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc around working 1 sc in each dc, 1 sc in each ch-1 sp, and 3 sc in each ch-2 sp corner, join with sl st in first sc, fasten off. (56 sc)

Finishing
Weave in ends. Lightly block if needed.
