Cluster stitches, sometimes abbreviated as “Cl”, can be made in several different ways. The main difference is how many times you insert your hook into the same stitch or space. When you do this 3 times, and repeat the instructions in brackets 3 times, it’s called a 3 double crochet cluster stitch.

3 Double Crochet Cluster = [Yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook] 3 times, yarn over, pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Cluster stitches are basically working decreases stitches all in the same spot.
