Book: Scarves in the Round: 25 Knitted Infinity Scarves, Neck Warmers, Cowls, and Double-Warm Tube Scarves

Author: Heather Walpole

Since I’m moderating the neck things group for the Ravelry Gift-a-Long, I’ve been thinking about neck things a lot. So, today seems like the perfect time to post about a new book I received, Scarves in the Round: 25 Knitted Infinity Scarves, Neck Warmers, Cowls, and Double-Warm Tube Scarves. When I was flipping through this book, I couldn’t help but think that you could knock out almost all your Christmas or Chanukah knitting with just the patterns in this book.

Many of the pieces in the knit and purl section would be perfect for beginning knitters looking to get started with circular knitting, or for just light, mindless knitting. Projects in later sections would likewise be a nice way to try out cables or a new technique.

I like the fact that Heather includes several tube scarves – these look like regular rectangular scarves but are actually long tubes worked in the round. The doubled fabric you get when you lay them flat results in a delightfully extra warm scarf.

Heather is fond of the rolled look you get at the beginning from stockinette worked in the round. If that’s not your thing, you could likely sub in a couple of rounds of garter stitch, or, for tube scarves, seam the opening together afterwards.
