This past Monday night, my friend Jen started showing me how to use a drop spindle. She showed me what she called the “park and draft” method. You spin the spindle, park it by stopping it and holding it, and draft (pull) out the fiber. It’s really neat to watch the twist in the fiber travel up into the drafted fiber. Although I did get a bit frustrated at times, I think I could really enjoy spinning once I get the hang of it.
The drop spindle I have seems like a good one, but I can’t help but feel that spindles are a bit bulky to carry around- at least compared to a crochet hook or circular knitting needles . I almost wish there was a collapsible spindle out there.
