I received a skein of Lorna’s Laces Solemate yarn yesterday in the beautiful Purple Club colorway. I want to make something special with it, just for me. I think I’m going to try to make a matching cowl and fingerless gloves set. I’m flipping through my stitch dictionaries and looking for a pattern that appeals to me and is relatively easy.

My main dilemma is what order to knit everything in. I’m afraid if I knit the cowl first, that I’ll wind up just short of yarn to finish the gloves (one thumb syndrome). So, it seems like a good idea to knit the gloves first.

However, in the true spirit of over thinking EVERYTHING, I’m debating whether to do both gloves first or just one glove, followed by the cowl and second glove. If I do both gloves first, two-at-a-time magic loop, then I have to separate the yarn into two balls. This means an extra yarn end or two to weave in when I do the cowl. If I do one glove first, take a break to do the cowl (and possibly wind up with the project in hibernation for a while), then I risk having difficulty meeting the same gauge when I start the second glove.

What do you think? I’m not sure which way to go, and as I have a deadline project on the hook right now, I still have a week or so to decide.
