There was a post on Ravelry a while back complaining about how magazines and books will advertise a fantastic “recipe” that turns out to use tons of pre-packaged mixes and such rather than being made from scratch. Although I do enjoy making some rather labor intensive meals, sometimes I just need to make something and make it FAST. So here is my “not quite a recipe” for coffee marble cake.
Take a box of yellow cake mix. Follow the directions on it, substituting decaf coffee for whatever water or milk the box mix calls for. Pour half the batter into the baking pan. Squirt a fair amount (maybe 1/4 cup) of chocolate syrup into the remaining batter and mix to combine. If it doesn’t look chocolaty enough, then add some cocoa powder. Pour the chocolate batter into the pan. Use a sharp knife to swirl the two batters together. Bake as directed on the box.
It may not be a true recipe, but it tastes good.
For the one pictured, I split it into two loaf pans and froze one for later.
