Last year, we started planning my daughter’s bat mitzvah. I was filled with ALL the gushy maternal emotions: My baby is growing up; she’s becoming a young woman! *sob* *tears* Her bat mitzvahwould be in January, and I told her that I would knit or crochet her anything she wanted for the occasion. We went on a massive hunt through Ravelry to look at options. There was a brief moment …

I’m making this baby (ok, more of a toddler) hat out of Cascade 220 Superwash Sport. I love the way the yarn feels while I’m working. I’m going to have to make myself something out it too. The hat is actually worked in a spiral, so I get the effect of alternating colored rows without having to carry a strand of yarn up the inside.

Here’s what’s on my needles right now: It’s a large cowl made with Baah Yarns La Jolla in the California Poppy colorway. It will be large enough to form a hood on it’s own, but long enough to be doubled over. The piece is inspired by the book The Hunger Games. It has 4 different motifs (leaves and 3 different types of flowers). I should be able to finish this …

So I started on my fingerless gloves, two-at-a-time magic loop style. I thought it would be nice to share some stuff this project has taught me. 1: Tubular Cast Ons are Awesome – Love the folded edge look. If you’ve never tried a tubular cast on, I highly recommend it. I’m going to play around with a similar method for crochet because I love the edge look so much. 2: …

Now that daughter’s hat and scarf set is done, I’ve set to work on one for my son. I’ve heard a lot about slip stitch crochet and wanted to try it out. Vashti Braha has a great list of informative links on slip stitch crochet. For this project, I’m working the hat in the round and slip stitching in the back loop. Usually, I only use slip stitches to join …

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a small amount if you make a purchase using this link. Thanks for helping to support a fellow crafter. I started a new knitting project a little over a week ago. It’s a cowl: unless I run out of yarn, and then it’ll be a circular scarf. I decided I wanted it nice and squishy and warm, so I’m making it double thick. The method I’m using is kind of like double knitting, except that I’m only using one color on each side. It has eyelets so when you …
